Ride-hailing service Uber last week reinstated service in both San Antonio and Florida’s Broward County after local officials eased up on background-check regulations.

“In both places, local policymakers enacted rules that created burdensome barriers to entry for drivers, that included fingerprint background checks,” Uber spokeswoman Natalia Montalvo said in a statement. “And after much debate, city leaders reversed their previous positions and endorsed Uber’s background check process as the only mandatory requirement, thus opening the doors for Uber to operate again.”
